R2A Agar

 

Use: Agar medium used for the detection of heterotrophic bacteria in water, especially potable water.

Description: R2A medium was developed by workers at the EFIA for the recovery and isolation of aerobic and facultative anaerobic heterotrophic bacteria from treated potable water. R2A medium enhances the recovery of stressed bacteria due to the low concentration of carbon and energy sources and the addition of sodium pyruvate.
