Use: Phenol Red Dextrose Broth is used for the detection of dextrose fermentation by microorganisms.

Description: Phenol Red Dextrose Broth is used in the differentiation of the Enterobacteriaceae by dextrose fermentation. Carbohydrate free casein peptone is added to the medium to prevent false positive reactions. Microorganisms which ferment dextrose produce acid and change the color indicator to yellow. Durham tubes added to the culture medium prior to sterilization will detect gas production.
