Lauryl Tryptose Broth

Use: Lauryl Tryptose Broth is used for the detection of coliform organisms in water, wastewater, and foods.

Description: Lauryl Tryptose Broth was formulated by Malimann and Darby for the detection of coliform bacteria water. Coliforms are often used as indicators of fecal contamination in water and bacterial contamination in food and food products. This is a selective medium because it contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which inhibits organisms other than coliforms. Lactose is added to detect lactose fermentation by coliforms. Potassium Phosphates are the buffering agents, and Sodium Chloride is used to maintain the osmotic balance of the medium.
