Cetrimide Agar

Use: Cetrimide Agar is used for the selective isolation and cultivation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Description: Cetrimide Agar is based on Tech Agar, which was developed by King, Ward, and Raney. Cetrimide is prepared according to this formula with the addition of Cetrimide (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide). Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium, cationic detergent with limited disinfectant action. It causes nitrogen and phosphorus to be released from the bacterial cell. This germicidal activity is effective on most microorganisms except Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Cetrimide Agar is supplemented with 1% Glycerol as a source of carbon.
